Workshop on Pain & Symptom Management: 13th -14th August 2022

Introduction:
The symptom burden of patients with cancer and of those suffering from other life-limiting illness e.g. heart failure, renal failure, COPD, dementia can negatively impact on one’s quality of life. These patients will benefit from a palliative approach to managing their care needs that is holistic and evidence-based.

Associate Professor Ghauri Aggarwal Head of Department Palliative Care, Concord Hospital, Sydney.
Dr. Jan Maree Davis Medical Director, Palliative Care. St Georges and Calvary Hospital, Sydney.
Dr. Ednin Hamzah CEO, Hospis Malaysia.
Dr. Sylvia McCarthy Medical Director, Hospis Malaysia.
Dr. Lim Zee Nee Palliative Care Physician, Hospis Malaysia.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to use evidence based, patient-centred approach to manage common symptoms encountered in caring for patients with palliative care needs.

Method:
This is a case-based workshop, incorporating small group activity with facilitated discussions as well as mini-lectures covering the latest evidence in symptom management in palliative care. Group discussions will enable all aspects of the case to be considered including ethical concerns.

The following topics will be covered:
Assessment in Palliative Care
Goals of Care Discussions
Managing difficult pain
Assessment and Management of Dyspnoea
Managing Gastrointestinal symptoms
Cachexia-anorexia
Hydration and Nutrition
Delirium
Palliative Care Emergencies
Care at the End of Life.

Venue:
Hospis Malaysia Auditorium (Level 1) – 2 Jalan 4/96, Off Jalan Sekuci, Taman Sri Bahtera Cheras, 56100 Kuala Lumpur

Registration:
Workshop is designed to work best in a small group setting. It is most suitable to those already working with patients with advanced illness and hope to improve care. Workshop will be conducted in English.

Slots are limited, please register early. Participation in the workshop will only be confirmed after we have received your submission for registration and is NOT automatic.

Registration Fee Rate
Doctors RM250
Nurses / Allied Healthcare Professional RM150

*CPD Claimable : 16 points
